Possibly one of the most counter-intuitive strategies we will ever come across as internet entrepreneurs is to ‘Give your best stuff away’. So what exactly should you give away and what should you be charging for?
You have valuable information and you are willing to share it with others… for a price, right?
What Internet Entrepreneurs Give Away
Well, this may come as a shock to you, but the information you have isn’t actually valuable at all. Wake up – this is the digital age – everything is online. Search and it shall be yours. Go on, I dare you. Make a search for that valuable information you hold so dear to you. It’s already online, sitting on a server as a series of ones and zeros. Ignorance has ended as an excuse.
Anybody can figure out how to make money online, the information is all there in front of them. Anyone can develop a 6-pack or pile on muscle, or lose 10 pounds, the information is all there in front of them. So why doesn’t this just happen?
The reality of today is that by far the majority of people who receive information will not take action on it. They won’t actually use it, because in our world most people want success spoon-fed to them. They want you to make little aeroplane noises or train chugging noises and pop that spoon right into their mouth. Your target audience is an audience of minimal effort – they want to expend the least amount of effort they can get away with and still succeed.
So whatever information you have, share it and share it for free. People will like you for it. People will follow you for it. People will be able to see that you do know what you are talking about. People will see you as an expert.
… And What They Sell
But as an internet entrepreneur your aim is to sell stuff right, and if you are giving your information away for free, what do you charge for?
Well, people don’t just want information, they want to be shown how to use that information, and they are willing to pay to be shown. And that’s where we internet entrepreneurs come in.
Charge to help people implement the information. Charge to show them how to use the information to accomplish their goals. Charge to coach them.
Charge them for workbooks, schedules, and customised plans.
Give information away for free and charge for animating that information.
