In this article I explain how to start your own digital marketing agency. It’s easier than you think!
Why You Should Start A Digital Marketing Agency
Firstly, certainly don’t worry about the competition. There’s always room! Every company needs fresh leads and new customers. But here’s a fact for you… Did you know that 66% of small business owners say that finding new customers is a top concern? Not too shocking right? But did you also know that nearly two-thirds (64%) of businesses do not even have a website? Nope, that’s not a joke. Around 2 out of every 3 businesses don’t even have their own website, even though they believe that they should have one!
And just to put some scale on this marketing opportunity, there are over 30 million small businesses in the USA alone, employing a whopping 59 million people!
There’s definitely money in this if you approach it the right way!
6-Steps to Start Your Own Digital Marketing Agency
Anyway, to the main question – How do I start my own digital marketing agency?
Step 1: Decide which services you are going to offer. You may have skills in many areas of digital marketing but my recommendation is to pick your strongest and start with that. So maybe you are good at SEO, or article writing, or creating social posts, ….
Don’t try to offer everything at once. Pick one area and set your business around that.
Step 2: Pick a Niche. Most businesses need help with their digital marketing but you can’t serve everyone. Pick a niche you know something about or a niche you are interested in. For example, if you have some previous experience in real estate, then focus on the real estate market first. Or maybe you are a gym fanatic, so pick the fitness niche.
Step 3: Set your pricing – Do a little research and see what others are charging and then set your own prices at a significant discount. So for example, you may find that people are charging say $500 a month to create and post 5 articles a month. So set your price at $600 (yes, higher) and then set a 50% discount offer, so your client pays $300/month.
Step 4: Create a landing page. It must look professional, especially the graphics. You can do it yourself very easily using a tool such as Clickfunnels or Kartra. Add a quality lead magnet to your landing page.
Step 5: Drive customers to your landing page. Lots of ways to do this, but the quickest way to get results is to contact people directly. One underused way of doing this is to use Instagram.
Using Instagram to Get Clients
Let’s say that you are going to specialise (initially) on helping Fitness Coaches in London get clients.
Do this 10 or 15 times a day.
1. Go to instagram on your mobile device
2. Search for your niche eg ‘<niche><location>’ Example – Fitness Coaches London
3. Click on recent
4. Choose one of them
5. Click on their name
6. Click on email – you now have their email address
To email them
1. Subject line “Quick question”
2. Tell them what you do using your elevator pitch
3. Ask them to ping back to you if they are interested in [getting high-quality leads] (etc).
Step 6: Deliver what you promise. Over deliver if you can, but never under deliver. When you have some positive results for your client, ask them for a testimonial.
How to Grow Your Digital Agency Business
When you have your first few clients under your belt, here is a 7th step you can take to grow your business to 6 or 7 figures.
Step 7: Add more services. Remember, you don’t need to be an expert in everything, so you can outsource tasks you are not good at. Example – Hire a freelancer to improve SEO on your clients website, then charge your client a margin. The freelancer works for you at say $250 for SEO work, you charge your client $400.
